Install fails ( cd drive issues )

Hi. I'm installing linux on an old E-5320 Fujitsu Lifebook, but the road seems pretty bumpy. CD loaded and ran fine up until the actual package installation, where the computer locks up in a loop of I/O errors, IRQ timeouts, "possibly failed opcodes."

ATAPI device hdc:
Unrecovered read error -- (asc=0x11, ascq=0x00)
...
end_request: I/O error, dev hdc, sector 252500
buffer I/O error on device hdc, logical block 63127
hdc: irq timeout: status=0xd0
possibly failed opcode: 0xa0
...

The preceding code is spammed at whatever terminal happens to be open. No terminal executes a command (It'll take it, but the cd access error has the computer locked up.)

My predicament is that this laptop doesn't have an ethernet port, its usb port may or may not work (I think not, but I can't find my flash drive to test it.), and the CD drive may appear to be out of functioning condition.

Thank you for any help.

Re: Install fails ( cd drive issues )

I have the same problem, and when it started with the I/O errors,
It shut down and ever since then it will not boot from the livecd.
The livecd still works on my laptop just fine.
I have the bios set to boot from cd first.
I also tried it without the hd plugged in.
Everytime I get a GRUB _ message
and its not a prompt because I can't type anything.
any help would be appreciated.

Re: Install fails ( cd drive issues )

I have the same *#¤%¤#& problem.

I tried all sorts of other distros (well Fedora and Ubuntu since they are kinda "mostly just works") i am however starting to blame the Fujitsu Esprimo p1500 since well... its cheap and probably crappy...

All the distros work just fine on my Dell M2400 laptop so it should not be the kernel or what not...
