Trying to set up a VERY basic website. Just want to set up a forum / newsgroup like site for a small group of people. I have no trouble with using Arch for desktop use, but never tried a server before on Arch or any other platform. Naturally I have a few questions:
1. Can expect most platforms / browsers to connect using my IP address rather than a domain name? I know I can get Google using the IP, but is there any issue or incapability to do this with IE or Safari?
2. Any prefab site layouts distibuted for free I can get? All I need is something emulating the abilites of a newsgroup that I might tweak a little myself.
3. Any general tips or alternative ideas?

3. Nope

I know it would be retarded for it not to work in certain browsers, but there are many retarded things out there, unfortunatly.
Thanks.

Ok, I have the server running, and I can ssh into it from my PC (and only my PC, not a complete security dunce.)
This leads me to one more question. My desktop has a GUI and all that, of course, and my server does not. If I ssh into the server, install a GUI program - without gtk, xorg or whatever - can I use the GUI on my pc to display the window, but still have all of the output of the program directed into the server.
Ex. Can I run a file manager through ssh and move files if I don't have any sort of GUI on the server?

I don't quite understand the first question.
As to the second I have a headless freebsd server without any sort of gui environment and use Arch with Gnome. I use Nautilus to connect via SFTP and can manage files happily, although I normally just use command line.

If nautilus supports that, I may consider switching to it. I usually use pcmanfm. Thanks for the help.

Nautilus uses gnome virtual filesystem to mount remote directories. If you wish to stay with PCManFM you can use Gigolo from AUR for this or refer to SSHFS wiki page.

Exactly what I want. Thanks a lot, everybody. Got it all as I want it.

You can use ssh X forwarding but you would need to install Xorg on the server. The whole idea is kind of pointless if you ask me. Just do everything on the command line like a real man.
Let me repeat, real men use the command line

I can appreaciate the command line - love vim - but somehow I can't get mv to compare with click'n'drag.
