There's also netcfg, which (in its standard form) doesn't have a GUI but connects you automatically, using whatever interface you want. Have a look at Network Profilesin the wiki. Netcfg has GUI frontends too.

Edit: Too late, as always. X)

wifi-select

This one depends on netcfg and is a really great tool. So you were on the right way at your research ;-)

nope, its an old unmaintained app that happens to have the same name. That said, there's plenty of other GUI front ends for netcfg that have been mentioned.

I'll add a plug for netcfg-tray too.

Re: which wifi tools is lightweight?

I like to think of netcfg as a wrapper which allows you to setup profiles for one-line access to the stuff you'd normally do with wpa_supplicant and ifconfig. If you're able to use the latter the former should be the same, but easier.

Apologies to iphitus, I know its more complicated than that underneath, but that's how I see it.

Re: which wifi tools is lightweight?

I use wicd, its pretty lightweight and requires less configuration than netcfg for WPA2-Enterprise networks. This is a plus for me since my school uses WPA2-Enterprise.

Re: which wifi tools is lightweight?

Well wicd is indeed nice, especially the newest version with the added ncurses interface..
