Could not create GL context

i love supertuxkart
and had no problems getting it running untill this happened
after i restarted my system
this is what i get from the konsole

[nikhil@archer ~]$ supertuxkart                                                 
Data files will be fetched from: '/usr/share/supertuxkart/'                     
Config file '/home/nikhil/.supertuxkart/config' does not exist, it will be created.                                                                             
Highscores will be saved in '/home/nikhil/.supertuxkart/highscore.data'.        
SDL_SetVideoMode (800x600) failed: Could not create GL context

i have run this game earlier on the same machine same config
but cant do it any more

whats more
supertux2 doesn't run either

[nikhil@archer ~]$ supertux2
[/home/nikhil/.supertux2] is in the search path
[/usr/share/supertux2] is in the search path

whats wrong here??
