gqview closes immediately [Solved]

Hey, I'm having another problem after just sorting out my issue with Rhythmbox.

I can't open any pictures with gqview. Well, that's not entirely true. I can't open them by double-clicking the files in thunar, having selected to open pictures with gqview. However, if I start gqview manually and then drag and drop an image into the app, it won't close (or crash for that matter). Starting thunar through a terminal and opening a picture with gqview then leaves me with a "Remote GQview not running, starting..." message in the terminal window. Then gqview closes again without further information as to why in God's name.

Any input on this issue would be much appreciated.

Re: gqview closes immediately [Solved]

I've come across that problem too but I was to lazy to figure out its cause, the solution for me is/was to tell the file manager to open the image file with another program and point to /usr/bin/gqview.

You may also want to give geeqie a try, I'm not sure if gqview is still being maintained upstream but geeqie being a fork of gqview is being maintained as far as I know.

Re: gqview closes immediately [Solved]

Found a workaround now based on your idea actually. Under properties of an image, I selected gqview from the list and then checked the "use a custom command" option and changed the command to gqview %f. Do that for every file type and you're set. However, I'll still give geeqie a shot. So thanks for the tip!

You can also directly edit /usr/share/applications/gqview.desktop and change the command "Exec=gqview -r %F" to "Exec=gqview %F".
