/etc folder gone

Hello,
During partition-resizing I have somehow lost my /etc-folder. Naturally, I cannot boot arch. I have a lot of files in my lost+found folder but they have strange file names (some letters plus a number).

If the folder has somehow moved somewhere else I cannot locate (the command) it, since i cannot updatedb.

Is there some way to re-created the /etc-folder? Could I copy /etc from the installation-disk?

I'd say your best bet is to just reinstall the system. You might have some lock at restoring some of the files, but you probably will not restore them in full. Another option that might work would be reinstalling all the pkgs you have installed on your system from within a livecd environment after you restore the pacman /etc files.

How exactly would I go about your second suggestion? Would I copy /etc from the live cd and somehow let pacman analyze my system?

PS: Is there some utility to handle the files in lost+found or does one have to examine the files manually?

I had a backup but it was on a USB . . . And I formatted it to try Haiku yesterday.
Now it seems stupid I did not copy the backup to my NAS.

I guess I have learned my lesson

I appreciate any hints though.

another reason why you should think what the command does before prepending sudo / su -c

What I would recommend is just backup your home and reinstall since if you don't know how it happened (I presume), then there could be other files missing in other folders.

Something like this might work from a livecd once you setup networking and what not

NOTE: NOT TESTED!!!!

pacman -Qq | xargs pacman -S -r /mnt/arch --noscriptlet --nodeps

I think this should work, but I don't have a system to test it on and I may have overlooked something
