I am booting from the 2009.8 Netinst ISO file and would like to know how I can force a static IP address? I know if I run the 'dhcpcd' command, it will try to obtain a lease from the network however I am not wanting to run the server / install from DHCP. I need to manually enter in a static IP address (192.168.1.100) before I start pulling packages. During the 1st part of the install I do the following:
1 = select source option 2 for net (FTP/HTTP)
Then I get a message to the effect of:
If you wish to load your Ethernet modules manually, please do so now in another terminal. I am not sure what I am suppose to do to have the installer prompt me for running a static IP address.

I am not following you. I need to run the /sbin/ifconfig command?
I know what ifconfig and resolv.conf are but how does this help me set a static IP address before I start and install on the Netinst disk? Please explain...

Set up the network by hand before you start the installer.
