X Issues?

Okay, so a while ago,  I was having difficulties with my framebuffer, i.e. it would flash and flicker upon shutdown.

I managed to fix that by using uvesafb and I no long experience those issues.

The problem is, now that I'm using Uvesafb, whenever I use the shutdown, reboot, or poweroff commands, it shuts down normally, then when I reboot, X will be running at 1024x768 instead of my native settings of 1280x800.

The only way I've found to fix this is to log in as root, do

X -configure
mv ~/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then shut it off via the power switch and then log in.

I'm running an up-to-date system with xf86-video-intel drivers, and running KDEmod [this also happens in regular KDE, didn't try it with any other DE/WM's] if any of that matters.

Please, I really need some help. I REALLY don't want to switch to some sub-par distro because of these stupid issues, but it looks like that's what it's going to boil down to.

Re: X Issues?

Do you have a Modes line in xorg.conf specifying the resolution you want? E.g. for mine I only want 1280x1024 so I set:

SubSection "Display"
Viewport 0 0
Depth 24
Modes "1280x1024"

Re: X Issues?

anything interesting going on in /var/log/Xorg.0.log?

One nation, under the corporatocracy, indivisible, with liberty for them.

Really, I can understand the Supreme Court's rulings. Afterall, corporations are people just like us, with love and feelings, hopes and dreams, and a limited lifespan to do it all in... oh wait, nevermind. I was thinking of same-sex marriage.
