Uvesafb woes

I followed the Uvesafb wiki entry, installed v86d and adjusted the hooks in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf as follows:

HOOKS="base autodetect pata scsi sata filesystems udev v86d splashy keymap"

It is all very pretty now but I cannot access ttys 1-6 any more from kdm.

My relevant rc.conf:

KEYMAP="uk"

Am slightly mystified...

I'd like to make myself a nice splashy theme so that I can see the booting process fully with proper resolution (1920x1200) but not having access to ttys 1-6 is total no-no!

What am I missing?

Re: Uvesafb woes

And once I'm logged into KDE (vanilla) it still refuses to change over...

Re: Uvesafb woes

So I booted and pressed tty1 after grub - kdm came up but my keyboard was not recognized.

Makes me think that this may have something to do with hal getting its knickers in a twist. Having said I honestly don't know and would dearly like to have Uvesafb (without splashy) so I can follow the boot up better and have more screen estate on tty1-6...
