yah I know wma files are the devil... but i have a few cds in wma format... I do not wish to transcode them... is there anyway to get Amarok to play WMA files? Googling led me to a patched taglib which I see is in the AUR but it is out of date... looking on the taglib webpage shows that the new 1.6 version supports WMA... is that all that is needed for amarok to play WMA files? If so how long abouts till we see taglib 1.6 hit the testing repo?

That's not an Amarok issue. You'll need to install the proper codecs for playing wma files.
I can't remember now what's the package, exactly, but it works fine for me here. But I guess that are the gstreamer bad plugins.

Drag and drop the wma files in the CD into the playlist.

taglib-extras perhaps?

huh? I meant I have some cds that I downloaded from the web that are in wma format... they show up in my collection/playlist... just when I play them I get an error saying no demux found... i am able to play them in smplayer -- but that is not a very useful solution for me
taglib-extras perhaps?
i have had it installed >< pretty sure taglib doesn't support wma till 1.6
btw... this is amarok 1.4 for it matters.

weird... I rebuilt all the gstreamer packages that are in the AUR and are the git versions... and it started to work... I also rebuilt ffmpeg-svn... not sure what did it but now wma plays fine in amarok.
