Grub Error 16

Booted up my machine this morning, and grub halted with 'Error 16.'  A reboot didn't help, producing the same error.

I did some searching and found that error 16 is defined as:

16 : Inconsistent filesystem structure
This error is returned by the filesystem code to denote an internal error caused by the sanity checks of the filesystem structure on disk not matching what it expects. This is usually caused by a corrupt filesystem or bugs in the code handling it in GRUB.

I'm not sure where to begin resolving this (and my searches returned tips for resolving error 15 and 17 mostly).  Can anyone offer advice?

Re: Grub Error 16

If it's a corrupt filesystem you might be able to fix things by booting with a livecd and using fsck.

Re: Grub Error 16

There are quite a few good distros around for precisely that purpose: systemrescuecd, parted magic, gparted live.

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.
