Weird artifacts at first boot screen and unstable system.

I've upgraded to 4x1GB ram from 2x1GB, now I get a 10 pixel wide string of random colors on the immediate boot screen. (Where you choose boot options or enter bios settings)
The system is also very unstable, it does core dumps like, randomly.
I ran memtest on each stick separately and found no errors, what could be causing this?
They are definitely installed correctly.

I'm running memtest on them together now, and I think the first pass ended at like 22% while doing random numbers. It didn't state any errors or anything, just went on doing next pass.

Could it be some hardware error on the third or fourth ram slot, or could it be some power issues? I have a very power demanding gfx card (thinking of the weird pixels), the psu provides 500W. (don't know how much power the card needs, but it's clearly a heavy consumer)

It would be nice to straighten this out.

Edit: paid more attention the next pass, it ends at 24% doing modulo 20
aborted memtest and took out the fourth stick, no pixel artifacts now. I'll switch the one I took out and the third just to make sure it's not that one, but it seems like it's the fourth slot that's broken somehow...
