Panasonic + MTS issue

Hi All. I'm wondering how you deal with Panasonic MTS format? Using VLC it causes visible white pixels while playing. MPlayer (SMPlayer front-end) plays the movies in 3 -4 fps mode. I can also forget about compressing. Avidemux doesn't even opened the file. The only way to make my movies usable is The Well Known Operating System which really i don't like. I'm curious what is Your experience whith MTS files?
