custom fonts in console

I always find fonts in console ugly. At work I use putty client on windows and there I can configure fonts and anti-aliasing, etc. It looks really nice. Is it possible to use ttf or some other custom fonts in console? Not only that, what are some other ways to make text in console look nicer?

Thanks for reading!
