[UNSOLVED AGAIN]HAL/xorg not finding radeonhd

My problem is this:

I installed hal and xorg + flux, edited .xinitrc to start fluxbox with startx.
Installed the radeonhd as explained in the wiki beginners tutorial.

My graphics card is radeon HD 2600 XT.

In Xorg.0.log file I can't find anything that radeonhd has been loaded, only about VESA.

Please help, the resolution is wrong(the right resolution is 1680x1050) now it's some VESA default.

Did you edit xorg.conf file? You can check archwiki or search google, to set it according to your needs.
Also try modprobe to load the drivers and check with lsmod, and try both opensource and proprietry drivers to check if that solves the problem.

I wonder how it would be like to use the rest 99% of my brain..:P

Re: [UNSOLVED AGAIN]HAL/xorg not finding radeonhd

I use hal so I have no xorg config.
I really do not need great 3D acceleration I just need a stable system, so the opensource drivers should be better for me(says the wiki).
Can try to make a xorg.conf, but don't know how.

EDIT:
Got the right display resulution by using xf86-video-ati. I would still like to know what went wrong with the other opensource driver.

Re: [UNSOLVED AGAIN]HAL/xorg not finding radeonhd

Remove all video drivers except radeonhd from your system, including vesa. Try again. If it still doesn't work, create a minimal xorg.conf specifying the radeonhd driver. Try again.

FYI - hal has nothing to do with video drivers. xorg has its own autodetection routines for video. hal handles input devices only (unless, of course, you decide to disable it).

Re: [UNSOLVED AGAIN]HAL/xorg not finding radeonhd

Thanks tomk, but it didn't work. X.org couldn't find any screen when I did that(the first tip).
I have no idea how to create a minimal X.org conf.

I will mark this solved in some hours if no one has anything more to say, as the display is now working with right resolution and I do not need 3D support.

Re: [UNSOLVED AGAIN]HAL/xorg not finding radeonhd

I made a very basic xorg.conf file that choosed radeonhd driver and saved it to /etc/X11.
Checking the Xorg.0.log I find that the driver loads.

But then there is problem, the resolution looks like it is too big, so I only see a part of the desktop on the screen.
Also there is "stripes" not clear black ones but definately visible vertical across the screen.
