[SOLVED} 2009.08 goes2grub prompt & Archboot installs then won't boot

SOLVED FOR GETTING ARCHBOOT INSTALLED SYSTEM TO WORK: just had to toggle boot flag on 1st partition.  Official ISO core still goes stright to grub probt in a second though.

Really weird: looked all over the forum for reason. Though it might be ide-legacy though ...hmmm... not really.
Reburnt both Archboot 2009.08 and official ISO  2009.08     only archboot goes through install.
The official ISO goes immediately to a grub promp   nothing else.... no install at all  just a grub prompt

I thought I read something abuot this somewhere a few weeks back.
So... it's an older 1 ghz PIII HP laptop....

ideas needed.
thank you for reading!

UPDATE COMMENT: I booted from a live CD and reinstalled grub....
It succeeded yet I did not get the 'has an ext2 filesystem'  line at all during the   root (hd0,0)  call ....

weird could there be NO filesystem in some way?

The laptop says  'hard drive boot sector invalid' though who knows exactly how that applies.

Hmm not an Arch guru but possibly could be an issue with PIII? The iso is labeled as i686 optimized but this could also mean it uses i686 only instuctions.
If the latter is true your processor (i386) will be incompatible.

If someone could confirm that would be great. smile

Re: [SOLVED} 2009.08 goes2grub prompt & Archboot installs then won't boot

nice, thanks. This machine is newer than the PIII Dell I eventually burnt out. The Dell ran ARCH ok with some grub boot commands. quite a string of then actually. can't recall right now.

thing is, this HP should work i think.  I'm going to really try to get it running after some sleep.
well, that may be it the i686 requirement. I thought that PIII's were sort of fine, with maybe apci weird things and similar.

This doesn't boot at all so I guess no kernel panic.

Install OK with archboot though only goes INSTANTLY to grub prompt when booted from official ISO
