How to change package name dynamically?

I'm aware that CVS/BZR/SVN packages, for example, are able to dynamically modify package version. Is it possible to do the same with package names?

For example, the kernel26-ice package allows users to select whether to apply the ice patch, the RT patch, the BFS patch, and so on. It would be convenient if there was a way to specify in the PKGBUILD that if the user selected the ice patch, the package name would be kernel26-ice, if he selected the RT patch, the package name may change to kernel26-rt, and such. That way, it would be possible to first compile kernel26-ice, and then compile kernel26-bfs from the very same PKGBUILD, generating non-conflicting .tar.gz packages which could be installed side-by-side.

This could, perhaps, also be done using split PKGBUILDs, but I'm unfamiliar with any currently existing split PKGBUILDs, could someone point me to some examples?
