After you do
$ modprobe raw1394
Do you see it in the out of
$ lsmod |grep raw1394
I remember I got an error when I dumped some video from my camera but I do not remember the specific error. The solution was to specify the format.
$ dvgrab -f hdv FILENAME

I'm not sure how to get it to work, but the error message is related to your modprobe directory:
WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/sound, it will be ignored in a future release.
Reference: http://www.archlinux.org/news/450/
It looks like the old firewire stack, so you need to make sure you load the proper modules at boot, (or modprobe them)
Also... try running dvgrab in interactive mode:
dvgrab -i
Also, is your user added to the video group?
