4500HD compiz

Hi i have an lenovo x200 with an intel 4500 HD graphics card.

i installed compiz and when i enable it windows wont move and it seems like everything is slow.  i can click on the fusion icon and switch back to metacity but it takes a long time because performance is slow.

i checked the wiki and found this:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Int … ompositing

but that is for the 945GM.  im not sure that it is the same for my card; i thought i would ask before i did anything.  thanks for the help.

Re: 4500HD compiz

See http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 00#p634000

I have the x4500MHD and I must say, since they dropped EXA performance is terrible. On the Windows side of things, the x4500(M)HD has unbelievable performance for an IGP. Sad, really.

Hopefully things will improve soon. An uphill march is due with reguard to Intel drivers.

Re: 4500HD compiz

Did you try enabling "indirect rendering" from the fusion-icon menu? Worked magic on my notebook.

Re: 4500HD compiz

hi, i heard about the intel driver issues lately.  it is upsetting because now it is annoying to use intel graphic chips.  i typically get integrated graphics because there are issues with nvidia and ati drivers in linux.

anyway it worked in ubuntu and fedora; im not sure if they are using the same drivers though.

i tried enabling indirect rendering.  that made the performance just fine but i couldnt move windows.  i then disabled compiz and went back to metacity which then had the issues.  restarting in metacity alone was fine.

this all seems weird to me but im new to arch...

is there anything i should try or just wait for better drivers?

Re: 4500HD compiz

I'd suggest trying out the "stable" or the "newest" drivers from AUR.

The stable driver has given me an fps increase for my GM965.

Re: 4500HD compiz

Compiz works fine with xf86-video-intel on the same hardware here.
You need some basic modules active for moving, resizing etc windows - not sure if they are enabled by default. From the Wiki:

Activate important plugins!
Before you do anything else, you might want to check if the plugins that provide basic window manager behaviour are activated or you will have no possibility to drag, scale or close windows as soon as compiz is activated. Among those plugins are "Window Decoration" under Effects and "Move Window" & "Resize Window" under Window Management. You can use ccsm to do that.
