Performing pacman -Syu under install CD?

Is it safe to perform pacman -Syu being booted from installation CD? In other words, is AIF supposed to work inside upgraded invironment?

Thanks.

Re: Performing pacman -Syu under install CD?

I have never used an arch installer I do a chroot install from knoppix livecd. I will say this though. When you do pacman -Syu. it will download and install alot of packages and you would need alot of ram to hold all that data. Were talking all the packages that need to be installed as well as the tarballs in pacman cache. I don't see a problem with installing from an updated system seeing as how it's possible for me install from knoppix or ubuntu livecd's but I could see you running out of ram unless you've got 4 gigs or something.

edit: I also don't think there is a benefit to installing from an -Syu (ed) system because arch being rolling release could be -Syu(ed) on the first reboot with little to no hiccups.

There is no problem with updating from the installer; in fact, I just did it this morning.
