Kernel 2.6.31.3 and ath9k wireless problems?

Not sure if this should go here or under networking but I lean towards here..

Since upgrading my connection randomly drops every now and then. The only thing I get with dmesg is:

wlan0: no probe response from AP 00:18:f8:62:ed:4a - disassociating

My other machines with the ath5k driver seem to not be having this issue, and since this is my only machine using networkmanager I tried connecting manually and using netcfg2. Same issue with both still.

Also I suppose I should note what chipset I have exactly too. With lspci I get:

06:00.0 Network controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR928X Wireless Network Adapter (PCI-Express) (rev 01)

If I'm missing anything or being a fool please lemme know and I apologize. If someone else is having the same issue though it'll be nice to know I'm not alone~ big_smile

This thread, while originally for the ath5k, talks about the ath9k driver too. Maybe there's some help there.

After the new kernel update, none of my network interfaces are showing up with ifconfig -a. Oh god.

After updating, my ra0 interface (for D-Link DWA-140 usb wireless driver) does not show off.

I'm also having this problem, reassociating with iwconfig works, but it's pretty annoying.

EDIT: The original issue with not being able to maintain connection. Ath5k doesn't work with my chipset hmm

Re: Kernel 2.6.31.3 and ath9k wireless problems?

I'm having the exact same problem, same chipset. I've been having wireless issues since 2.6.30. With 2.6.29 I had 80-90% signal strength in my bedroom. With 2.6.30 it suddenly shot down to 20-30%. And now with 2.6.31, no rise in signal strength, and now the connection is randomly dropping every so often. This is really aggravating... ):

Re: Kernel 2.6.31.3 and ath9k wireless problems?

I too think I'm having some issues with the same wireless chipset on 2.6.31.5.  The device seems to occasionally disconnect from access points, which was not an issue on 2.6.30 to the best of my knowledge.
The connection also seems to be dropping a lot of packets, which is not a problem on my other laptop when connected to the same networks.

I think it would be helpful to keep all discussion to one thread.  This one has the most information currently so that is my vote.

When I originally posted in this thread I was hoping that it would collect in one place. I concur that this has become the more informative thread, so I'll close the other and link back to this one.

Thanks

***EDIT***

I corrected a typo in the thread title. Thanks pyther.

I'm going to unscrew this up. Closing here and reopening there:
