1600x900 monitor recorded as 1600x896?

I was trying to record my monitor the other day, when I noticed that my screen is recorded as 1600x896 instead of 1600x900. On the top and bottom of my screen I can see tiny black bars that are not on the left and right sides, so I am thinking those are the pixel differences. Any ideas? How do I get rid of these? I've tried modifying xorg, playing with the Nvidia settings, and nothing seems to help. Thanks guys.

Not really sure, but on OpenBox you can set some pixels to not be used by other apps so you can always access the right click menu etc
So if you're using openbox and have something like that set, check if this could be the problem. Can't think of anything else right now..

Your video BIOS isn't reporting your screen resolution properly, so the nVidia driver is trying by other means. Since 900 isn't evenly divisible by 8, the driver is picking the closest possible value that's smaller than the physical screen space. You'll see the exact same behavior if you switched to the VESA driver.

It may be the X server doing this and not the specific drivers.

xrandr seems to think that 1600x900 is alright, so I'm not sure. There are ways to spoof the video BIOS, but the only one that I'm slightly knowledgeable on is 915resolution-static and it's for Intel cards.

Ah, I see. Anyone else have any idea? I would like to upload videos to youtube, but the 4 pixel difference makes the video foggy and unclear

monofluor, do you intend on making videos of your desktop? The 900 is not a problem, AFAIK.

And Wrinkliez, if you're reading this, when you take a full screen capture, what's the dimension of the resultant image?

No, general usage and grafic design. I need the best performance. I don`t want blurry images
