Hi, I'm trying to get Java and openfire working on my machine and I keep getting the following error whenever I try to create a VM:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine
.
I followdd the instructions in http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Java and installed OpenJDK6:
This is pretty much a clean install with not alot of things running, here is a screenshot of htop, there is pretty much nothing running
The system is VPS that has 512MB RAM.
Since OpenJDK didn't really work I just used Sun's JDK, I was able to get it working and openfire launched and I was able to use it, but it was eating up pretty much all my ram, so any other task I would try to do with Java, I'd get "Could not reserve enough space for object heap".
Is this normal? Is Java not very efficient in Arch? I have another Ubuntu VPS with 256MB running java/openfire without any problems. I would think Arch is more likely to handle it since its not bloated like Ubuntu. I must be doing something wrong, anyone has any ideas?
