I'm a new user. Recently I've done an upgrade and had to install OSS for a game and my ALSA driver seems to be completely gone.
# /etc/rc.d/alsa start
:: Restoring ALSA Levels [BUSY] /usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1569: Cannot open /etc/asound.state for reading: No such file or directory
[DONE]
so I tried aslactl store to restore the file:
# alsactl store
alsactl: save_state:1502: No soundcards found..
No go...
# ls -l /dev/dsp
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 26 2009-10-12 13:30 /dev/dsp -> /dev/oss/oss_hdaudio0/pcm0
# aplay -l
aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found...
# alsamixer
cannot open mixer: No such file or directory
However, alsa-lib, alsa-utils, alsa-oss, alsa-plugins. I even tried to install a bunch of alsa-related stuff from AUR as well. I don't know why its not being found. I'm really hating how OSS can only manage 1 sound source.
pacman -S alsa-lib alsa-oss alsa-plugins

I am having the exact same problem, I have no idea how to fix it or what it going wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
There is only one difference with my problem
ls -l /dev/dsp
ls: cannot access /dev/dsp: No such file or directory
/dev/dsp does not have a soft link
