Re: network not working

Well, I tried browserlinux with no luck (I tried different setting, static IP ...) ...

ping -c 1 192.168.1.1 (or any other IP) returns:

dmesg |grep atl1 (there may be typos):

... should I try on different network? I really don't have any more ideas ...

Re: network not working

I think google found something: This http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=538410 sounds very much like the problem you are having, and if you've just installed arch from CD the kernel version could fit as well. What a way to start arch - hitting a kernel bug.
Also I just checked browserlinux and found

Parent: BrowserLinux is based on Puppy Linux 4.3.1 / kernel 2.6.30.5 (SMP)

The current kernel has the problem fixed, but you cannot get it easily because you cannot get connected.

Options:
- do you have a wireless card / access point? Then you could use that to connect.
- I could try to get you an iso with the latest kernel.

Re: network not working

I cannot access to wireless network atm but if this is needed I can do it. What's that about the latest kernel? -- Do I have to upgrade my current kernel in Arch? I can install older version if this is ok.

Re: network not working

I'm having the same problem on a new arch install. Network fails on bootup, but if i run /etc/rc.d/dhcpd, it will connect to my router and im online.

Im using 2.6.31 BTW.

Re: network not working

beepressure: you're not having the same problem. If you had, you wouldn't be able to connect via dhcpd.

Wailer: I'm not sure how easy it would be to switch to an older kernel. You cannot just downgrade the kernel, you have to downgrade a few other packages as well. If you can get online somehow, then you can update via pacman -Syu, which would automatically upgrade your kernel. Then (hopefully) you will be able to connect normally. Since your network adapter is not working, the remaining options are (a) wireless and (b) using a router that allows a usb connection.

Just to make sure we're not on the wrong track: which kernel version are you running at the moment?

Re: network not working

Hi,

guess what, I´m having similar problems now. network card is Intel e100. I had a working ipsec vpn server yesterday. today after a pacman -Syu I do not have any network connectivity. I even can´t ping my gateway anymore. So, I took the 2009.8 base cd, installed it on another computer, network worked with static entries. After a pacman -Syu and a reboot later, the same config didn´t work any longer: In only get Destination host unreachable for ping

UPDATE: I deactivated the onboard E100 and put in another network card (no intel). Now network is working again.
Do we have a buggy e100 driver?

Re: network not working

Kin: I don't think the e100 network card uses the atl1c driver. It would be very very strange if it did. You are having a different problem - pls. start a different thread.

Re: network not working

i have 2.6.30-ARCH kernel. I'll try to connect to wireless and update kernel or install whole archlinux again.

Re: network not working

It's the same on another network. I also tried the install disc on other computer and the network works. Where can I get old kernel or the newest (2.31?)?

(on the mirrors for a week now)

Another thing: have you seen http://www.hogchain.net/attansic/attansic.html ?
Contains quite a few hints
