This is the perfect example of why Linux will never replace Windows. Don't get me wrong, I am a converted Linux user but I try to print something today for the first time since the update, and hey my usb printer does not work. Obviously from the forums, many people are having similar problems, and I'm sure the solution is there too. Unfortunately, I do not have the time to spend on sorting it out, I just need a working printer NOW. Let the flames commence .....

www.archlinux.org, latest news, 2nd message.
Archlinux is supposed to be a Linux distribution for people who know Linux already or at least are willing to learn. If you want a distribution where everything works out-of-the-box (or at least it's supposed to be), Opensuse or Fedora are probably a better choice for you.
And if you want assistance, there are also enterprise distributions that offer it, of course you have to pay for it.
And, BTW, Linux is mainstream _already_ .
(And yes, in the forum there is the complete solution which may involve a custom udev rule and remove/readd your printer. Less than 3 minutes of work. Is that a good NOW for you?)

I think you're confusing Arch and Linux, maybe you're just using the wrong Distro? From the Arch Wiki FAQ one reason Arch may not be for you:
"you do not want a bleeding edge, rolling release GNU/Linux distribution."
That excludes most Windows Users. I've been using Arch for my personal OS for five years. I recommend Kubuntu for Windows users who want to convert, or Puppy Linux for Windows users who want to bank online, may have a compromised OS, and can reboot something secure just for financial stuff.

All deserving of a closure.
