Frequently Freezes

I was recently having problems with my Arch install, something to do with the file system.

Now when I reinstalled it with the 2.6.31 Kernel, my system frequently locks up to the point where nothing responds.  Anyone know how I might be able to fix this problem or find out the problem.

Thanks

This won't get you any help. What system are you using (Desktop / laptop)?. This may even related to hardware issues. Did you try with Ubuntu CD?

Re: Frequently Freezes

There may be certain reasons for a system lock. Programs consuming 100% cpu, failure of important components, hardware issues, etc. You need to find more details. Did you check the log files? Can you run top or htop in a terminal in order to identify programs consuming lots of resources? Are you using KMS and did you try to disable it?

Are you able to restart the system using the MagicSysreq keys on a freeze?

Re: Frequently Freezes

I also noticed frequent freezes on my system, after the latest upgrade. Usually it comes back after freezing for several seconds though. CPU goes to 100% and then comes back to normal. Weird.
