Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0

I run an application when the network is connected, i get the error

"No protocol specified

(gedit:2332): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display: :0.0"

, but it is no problem when the network is disconnect, I don't known why?  please help me, thanks!

What application are you running? Normally such warning is harmless. I am not sure why this surfaced again after a long time.

I once read that xorg uses network sockets to communicate with graphical processes. My guess is that xorg is supposed to be listening on "localhost" for gui programs. I'd say that your /etc/hosts file is incorrect

try the following. replacing yourhostname with... well your hostname.

127.0.0.1 yourhostname.localdomain yourhostname localhost
