Okay that did it. New linux convert here that has been using #!crunchbang for about 3 months. I have been trolling thru the forums here at archlinux lately to see if a linux noob with a little bit of smarts behind him is capable of running the "all feared" Arch distro.
This post finally help solidify my decision. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=83110
I was fully expecting a "RTFM" reply, because that is exactly what I was thinking after reading the poster's question myself. But instead, unlike a lot of other distro forums, the poster received very nice replies that I am sure actually helped, and s/he is probably sipping on an ice cold Killians Red surfing around quite nicely on his/her newly installed archbox.
This is definitely a credit to the community here at arch. Look forward to becoming a part of it. I am downloading the torrent as I type.
Very respectfully!

the "all feared" Arch distro.
This an expression I have heard for the first time now - do we scare people?
Actually, you're right - community is great and very helpful over here.

Welcome and good luck. Hopefully, Arch will suit your needs. (With a little tweaking, it suits anyone's needs.)

Glad to see that my post was an inspiration to some swag!
The install went well last night - wiki worked like a charm! Working from a base KDE system right now installing all the essentials to make it a working distro for the family. Will be installing openbox on top of it sometime in the near future to have a WM top play with for myself.
Thanks guys!

I also think I should a least get at discount on the swag when it comes out!

Sure - why not? I was the inspiration of course!
Actually, I would probably be the first in line to purchase one.

...I have been trolling thru the forums here at archlinux lately...
I love that you wrote trolling! I guess you meant trawling.
On a side note, how much directed/concerted trolling goes on here? The mods always do such a great job on locking such nonsense that it never seems to be an issue.

Nope "trolling" is what I meant - had to look it up to make sure I haven't been using the wrong term after all these years. Seems trolling and trawling are the same thing though - who would have "thunk" it!

hehe, they are quite similar (but there is a difference).
I've never heard anyone use trolling for that meaning outside a fishing context which is why I misread you, trawling is a common phrase here for sifting through information, sorry about that!

I remember when I first installed Arch it was a very scary task. I read everything in the wiki that was relevant (or seemed to be) and after a day or two of debating about it, I finally took the plunge. It was truly a very easy install, and very purist/minimal. It turned out to be the opposite of scary. I haven't distro-hopped since.
Happy Hacking!
