Re: kdemod3 still worth it?

There is a known conflict with libjpeg7 described here:
http://www.chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=1097
It can be solved by installing libjpeg6 parallel to v7 (they don't conflict).
A complete rebuild has been promised four months ago, but this turned out to be much more complicate than previously thought. And manpower is scarce sad
Otherwise kdemod3 is still running fine over here smile

Oh, and beware of Amarok. Amarok2 is dependent on a lot of stuff from KDE4. Amarok 1.4 may be found in AUR, however.

Re: kdemod3 still worth it?

amarok 1 is actually on the kdemod3 rep.  kdemod-legacy/kdemod3-amarok 1.4.10-2

i've been using kdemod3 since i started using arch.  I've tried kdemod (4) and kde (4) from the extra/kdemod reps as well, but kde 4 is still missing things that i need, and kdemod3 + compiz gives me pretty much all i need at the moment, so i'll be using this until kde 4 matures to the same level of usability (possibly by 4.5?)

Re: kdemod3 still worth it?

Since I recently updated my system for the first time in like 5 months I'm kind of struggling. So many things are broken. I'll still be using kdemod3 if I can work through the fixes I need, or just do a rebuild myself if I have to. For me kde4 just went way overboard with flashy and pretty and the biggest killer being it still doesn't support multiple screens Ugh! Even if it did I wouldn't use it. kde3 had the perfect amount of glitz and everything just worked. totally made my computering hassle free. Oh well.. Thankful there's Good ole fuxbox smile)

Oh I have a back up install of arch that I made a year ago when I felt my machine was the most stable and solid. It has kdemod3 running great. I wonder if there's a way to selective update without breaking it?  Probably a slim chance, but may try sometime.

Re: kdemod3 still worth it?

I don't have any personal experience with kdemod3, but from some posts in the chakra forums it looks like kdemod3 is losing official support. You might try getting in touch with the people that were posting in this thread http://chakra-project.org/bbs/viewtopic.php?id=2548
