ati radeon X200m

my graphics card (radeon XPRESS 200M) doesn't appear to be working properly and is very slow (300 fps).

I am usiong xf86-video-ati and have had a hard time on other distros aswell.

this is what I did last time http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-78 … art-0.html on gentoo. It gave me 800 fps (still pretty slow the other guy said he was getting 1400 fps but sort of satifactory)

I have tried istalling mesa drm and my drivers git versions THIS BOOSTED MY PERFORMENCE TO AN AMAZING 300 FPS but that still sucks.

here is my var/log/Xorg.0.log http://pastebin.com/m5023a930

here is xorg.conf

 # xorg.conf (X.Org X Window System server configuration file)

ANY help would be amazing thankyou.

I used glx gears to produce fps rates I have talked about tested by also using compiz effects and looking at how slow they are.

I had to disable kms to make compiz work as it won't work without indirect rendering which is also annoying.

Re: ati radeon X200m

ok when is that likely to be because isn't that already released but not in the repos and is it likely to fix performance?

EDIT: windwaker is an awesome game

Re: ati radeon X200m

It's on [testing], but hasn't passed to extra, because it needs ... testing (along with Xorg server 1.7).

ΕDIT: All the Zelda games, from NES, to N64 and then GC and Wii, I love them big_smile

Re: ati radeon X200m

I have the same vga. I use xorg-server, xf86-video-ati and mesa from testing. I get 417fps. That's still pathetic. Karmic Koala (xorg-server 1.7.4) gives more. Could this be xorg bug?

Re: ati radeon X200m

its only a small diference so more likely to do with other system specs (processor etc).

Re: ati radeon X200m

ok well I installed mesa, xorg and the driver from testing and got 600 fps which was ok I suppose but still not great. I will wait for them to pass to extra and downgrade to the current ones now.

Re: ati radeon X200m

glxgears is not a benchmark. I'm getting 235 fps now, yet the performance in games (warcraft 3 for example) is better than before the update from testing. However glxgears got lower - I used to have 600 fps. So when you update the new xorg and mesa, try some games first, not glxgears.

Re: ati radeon X200m

I don't have any good games to test with only compiz so I was also using the benchmark plugin there and watching. This is also very slow when it used to be alot faster with the drivers from git bt this seems to have changed. The only other thing I did was stop drm being loaded as a kernel module but I can't figure out how to do this should I blacklist with a ! in mkinitcpio.conf and rebuild initramfs.

Re: ati radeon X200m

You can't stop drm to load, because if you could, you would have no display.

Have you done everyting mentioned in the wiki ?

Re: ati radeon X200m

in gentoo I did what this said http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-78 … art-0.html and I got alright 3d accel much better than this at the moment but I have done everything on the wiki.

EDIT: On google earth I can zoom in (slowly) but the picture becomes warped and eveything around turns grey slowly and jagged. It is very strange

Re: ati radeon X200m

ok a load of random hours trying random things  has helped. Yeah videos on youtube can't play fullscreen, yeah the magnefier plugin causes monumental slowdown, yeah google earth doesn't work but this is why we love linux always improving in small ways always causing more random trouble but IT IS OPEN SOURCE AND FREE so I can't complain.

Re: ati radeon X200m

You have no driver in:

Section "Device"
        Identifier      "Configured Video Device"
        Option          "AccelMethod" "EXA"
EndSection

so i guess you could be using vesa which is generic but not so good.

try with
        Driver "radeon"
or
        Driver "fglrx"
