This has been mentioned in passing in another post, but I see that libxft-lcd is out of date to the extent of incompatiblity with the libxft version pacman now wants to install. The package is orphaned. Could some kind dev adopt it? Is there, maybe, an alternative?

I've noticed the same thing with libxft-ubuntu - it's out of date, though it still has a maintainer. I plan to wait a while, but maybe go back to vanilla libxft if no updates are forthcoming. Not a solution, though, really.

Am I missing something? libxft-lcd works here although it's a version lower than libxft (libxft-lcd 2.1.13-1 and libxft 2.1.14-1). I just rebuilt and reinstalled other -lcd packages after removing libxft and installing libxft-lcd.
Anyway, I cleaned up lcd patch for libxft to work with new version, PKGBUILD and patch are here. Note that I don't understand libxft or the patch itself, I only hand-applied it to new version, but it works nicely here.

I don't really see what the problem is? It's just rebuilding a package with a higher version number. I could have understood the problem if there had been a patch involved - one that broke with the new software version, at least.
I see the Ubuntu package has no patches applied, the LCD one does. Did any of you try to upgrade it and find out if the patch breaks with the new version or not?
Show some initiative people . This isn't kindergarten...

Well, a patch does break with the new version, see my previous post.

I was checking the AUR entries of both packages and typing up my post when you posted (dog slow connection here), so it's kind of hard to see for me .
If you fixed up the patch to work with the new version, that's great. Could you post the adapted patch in a comment on the AUR page too?

Seems that someone beat me to it . Should have checked AUR myself first, I wasn't aware that there is still libxft-lcd in AUR after that move of community from AUR.
