WiFi

Oh, hai, guys i got a problem about the wifi connection, my wireless card is a Marvell 88w8335 [Libertas], i've installed the Windows Drivers with ndiswrapper, but when i do iwconfig the output it's that:

lo        no wireless extensions.

eth0      no wireless extensions.

ifconfig:

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:30:84:28:09:D4
          inet addr:192.168.1.100  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::230:84ff:fe28:9d4/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:578790 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:447128 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:731813732 (697.9 Mb)  TX bytes:136583489 (130.2 Mb)
          Interrupt:19 Base address:0x8c00

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:16436  Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

I dunno why that don't work, there's the ndiswrapper -l:

wg311v3 : driver installed
    device (11AB:1FAA) present

And if i type lspci i got the wireless card in the output:

...
01:08.0 Ethernet controller: Marvell Technology Group Ltd. 88w8335 [Libertas] 802.11b/g Wireless (rev 03)
01:0a.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
02:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G72 [GeForce 7300 LE] (rev a1)

I hope that u can help me guys, Regards anon.

Re: WiFi

Did you add ndiswrapper to the MODULES array in the rc.conf file?

Try doing a "modprobe ndiswrapper" and then do a iwconfig to check for wlan* devices.

Re: WiFi

Agree with Acecero.
However, show please your

ifconfig -a

If no wireless interfaces are there, you have to manually load a driver for WiFi.

I've copypasted iwconfig and ifconfig in the first post.

Re: WiFi

That was plain ifconfig, and not "ifconfig -a", wasn't it?

With ifconfig -a :

eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 00:30:84:28:09:D4
          inet addr:192.168.1.100  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0

Then that means you have no wireless interface at all. Did you try that modprobe command I suggest earlier?

Re: WiFi

hmm... nothing.
OK, then try

sudo modprobe ndiswrapper

and see if it changed ifconfig interface table (via "ifconfig -a").

ewwww, i think not, what i need to add? that's my rc.conf:

#
# DHCP: Set your interface to "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp")

#

#Static IP example
#eth0="eth0 192.168.0.2 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255"
eth0="dhcp"
INTERFACES=(eth0 !wlan0)

# - prefix an entry in ROUTES with a ! to disable it
#
gateway="default gw 192.168.0.1"
ROUTES=(!gateway)

# Enable these network profiles at boot-up. These are only useful
# if you happen to need multiple network configurations (ie, laptop users)
# - set to 'menu' to present a menu during boot-up (dialog package required)
# - prefix an entry with a ! to disable it
#
# Network profiles are found in /etc/network.d
#
# This now requires the netcfg package
#
#NETWORKS=(main)

# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
# DAEMONS
# -----------------------------------------------------------------------
#
# Daemons to start at boot-up (in this order)
#   - prefix a daemon with a ! to disable it
# - prefix a daemon with a @ to start it up in the background
#
DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network netfs crond hal alsa)

Anyway hidefromkgb, when i typed this cmd's i was root, then with sudo i dunno if changes something.

Remove the exclamation point in front of "wlan0":

INTERFACES=(eth0 wlan0)

Re: WiFi

What is the output of

lsmod
dmesg | grep ndis

To load ndiswrapper at boot, add to your modules array as so

MOD_AUTOLOAD="yes"
#MOD_BLACKLIST=() #deprecated
MODULES=(ndiswrapper)

Ok, there's the output, i think the problem is that i got a 32 bit driver, and my kernel is 64 bit, i must find a driver for 64 bit, rite? Check the output:

ndiswrapper version 1.55 loaded (smp=yes, preempt=yes)
ndiswrapper (check_nt_hdr:150): kernel is 64-bit, but Windows driver is not 64-bit;bad magic: 010B
ndiswrapper (load_sys_files:206): couldn't prepare driver 'wg311v3'
ndiswrapper (load_wrap_driver:108): couldn't load driver wg311v3; check system log for messages from 'loadndisdriver'
usbcore: registered new interface driver ndiswrapper

Correct.  I have no idea if you can find a 64 bit XP driver for this card, so you might want to go with 32 bit Arch or get a different wireless card.

Re: WiFi

first, 32 Bit will be suitable for this one. and a lot comfortable to use.
unlike 64 bit, you will do lot of configuration just in case an more prone to errors perhaps.

Re: WiFi

I've founded a way for transform the 32 bit driver in 64 bit, i'll try it, if don't work, i'll install arch 32 bit.
