I'm usnig Arch64 and kdemod on my notebook. I have upgraded my system just now and after reboot my external usb mouse doesn't work. I can click, but I can't move cursor properly.
Most of time it doesn't move at all, or it's moving, but in very strange way. It's slow, or it jump to the other edge of the screen, or cursor just dissapers, etc.. Trackpoint and touchpad work well.
I tried boot windows and it's ok there, so it isnt hw problem.
I dont know what to do, any advices?
Thank you

Same here... I think it's an X.org problem. I also experienced strange behaviour of the external mouse (touchpad worked ok) in Kubuntu 9.10 but only in OpenGL games (like OpenArena and Nexuiz). I think it's an X.org/Mesa problem just because I have Pardus 2009 on another notebook with Xorg-server 1.6 and older MesaGL (i don't know the version at the moment, because I don't have it near me) and it works ok both in KDE and GL games.
Anyone knows a workaround for this? It's just pretty annoying and it renders the notebook useless. It may be related to MultiPointer support that was brought in version 1.7 of the xorg-server.
I've spent half a day researching for this bug, on bugtrackers/forums, but I found no solution although I've found similar problems here and there, but your description of the problem seemed the most similar to what I'm experiencing.
Oh, and I forgot... I'm using plain KDE, not KDEmod, so it's not a KDEmod "feature".

I also noticed that after disconneting and conectinng mouse again it works for a while (~10 sec)..

Indeed, I've noticed exactly the same behaviour. I'm still failing in finding a solution around the net, anyone any luck?

The exact versions of xorg-server and mesa in Pardus 2009 that seem to work flawlessly are xorg-server-1.6.3 and mesa-7.5.1.

I am experiencing the same problem. Have you tried to move the mouse very slowly? It seems that only fast mouse movements trigger this issue for me.

yes, same here.

This was starting to drive me nuts, so I replaced Arch on my laptop for the moment because I needed a stable laptop to work on and I have removed older packages from cache, and I couldn't revert. I don't even know where to find the problem.. Is it DE related, Xorg related (with Xi2/MPX)... or an incompatibility between DE and the new input method in Xorg?
Any GNOME/Xfce users around facing the same problems? I think any other opinions would be needed before making an upstream bug report. I know it's not Arch's fault, but somewhere upstream things got messy regarding pointing devices. As I said earlier, Kubuntu was hit by this, too.. but at a lower extent, only GL apps are having problems with the pointing devices.

I installed xfce and mouse works whitout any problem, so it's KDE related issue I think.
Mmm, but now I notice that sometimes the cursor 'jump' down to the panel. But everything else is ok and I don't know if it's related to problems in KDEmod. But it's still pretty annoying and I can't work whit my system..
Great! Now, after 10 minutes of using xfce mouse have the same behaviour like in kdemod. So it's X problem..

Same problem here with GNOME. This is strange however: I've Thinkpad T61 laptop and A4Tech X7 (X-750F) USB mouse (with 6 buttons). After upgrade my A4Tech mouse stopped working (mouse pointer stays in the top-left corner) but - much to my surprise - a Logitech 4-buttons USB mouse works fine. The A4Tech mouse doesn't have any hardware problems (I've verified it on another PC).
Maybe the problem is somehow related to the number of mouse buttons?
My mouse section in xorg.conf contains synaptics section only:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse0"
Driver "synaptics"
Option "Protocol" "auto-dev"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
EndSection

I noticed that if I run startx the mouse works just fine, but the problem is when KDE is also running.

Scratch that! Mouse constantly 'jumps' at the bottom.
Anyway, I reverted back to the old xorg and problem is gone.

Can I get these old packages somewhere? Or if not, can you upload them?
I cleard my pacman cache so I don't have them..

Let me recalculate first how big the package would be.

I wonder if this is known upstream. Does anyone know a "shortcut" to the bug tracking system of X.org?

I'm also experiencing the same problem. But it also happens in XFCE. I can't move my mouse, it simply doesn't work. It keeps getting to the bottom and when I move it slowly it moves just a little. I unplugged and replugged ant it worked for about 5 seconds then it failed again. I rebooted to Windows and it works 100% and it's from where I'm posting this unfortunately.
Update: I launched gnome-mouse-settings and lowered the acceleration and It apparently "worked". If the bar passes the middle the mouse doesn't work.
Also the pointer keeps going to the bottom of the screen without ANY reason. If I click or press any button (mouse or keyboard) it does that!

I have a desktop with xfce and my mouse isn't working either. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 90#p650290
Has this been reported as a bug? Maybe a fix will come out soon so everyone won't have to downgrade.

There's a myth which says that A4Tech mice are more affected. Mine is a wireless mouse branded Fujitsu-Siemens, identified as Primax Electronics, that causes the same problems, as I said earlier. After what thisab said it may be that the higher the mouse dpi is, the more buggier X gets.

I've found a workaround that solved the problem for me: I've removed existing xorg.conf file and created a new one using 'hwd -xa'.
HWD created the following mouse definitions:
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Serial Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "Microsoft"
Option "Device" "/dev/ttyS0"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "Emulate3Timeout" "70"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "PS/2 Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "auto"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"
Option "Emulate3Buttons" "true"
Option "Emulate3Timeout" "70"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
EndSection
Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "USB Mouse"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
Option "SendCoreEvents" "true"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Buttons" "5"
EndSection
ServerFlags are set as follows:
Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AllowMouseOpenFail" "true"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "False"
EndSection
