[SOLVED] Audio stopped working

Recently, Amarok stopped playing music for me. In reality, it is playing. Volume is 100% in both system tray and in Amarok's own volume control. But I cannot hear even a chill. There is no problem in playing youtube videos with sound though. But that is from web. Do not no, what caused the problem. Music is stored outside Linux partition and accessed through /mnt/

Using KDEmod + Arch, System is HP Compaq nx6125 laptop.

update: I checked keeping music in my arch home directory and tried to play using vlc medial player. VLC also does not produce any sound, despite of the fact that, actually, it is playing. As sound can be heard during the loading of splash screen and also when youtube videos are played, this might not be a problem with my hardware. I am very much confused.

Re: [SOLVED] Audio stopped working

Yes, they are mp3 and wmv. No ogg file with me. phonon-backend-xine is installed.

And this is not limited to Amarok either. I just checked with vlc player. It also does not produce any sound. May be, I have screwed up something.

I just checked the beginners wiki after a long time to find how, I configured alsa. Did the sound test command, given there.

sebinaj ~
$  aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1010:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
aplay: main:608: audio open error: Device or resource busy

What might be the problem? any idea?

Re: [SOLVED] Audio stopped working

Here is more about the problem:

I typed vlc in console and vlc opened. Selected a file to play. The output is as follows:

$  vlc
VLC media player 1.0.3 Goldeneye
[0x9a3168] main libvlc: Running vlc with the default interface. Use 'cvlc' to use vlc without interface.
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1010:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave
[0xc394d8] oss audio output error: cannot open audio device (/dev/dsp)
[0xc394d8] jack audio output error: failed to connect to JACK server
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:1010:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to open slave

From System Settings > Multimedia, I checked for the audio devices. The result is in this screenshot: ofvsy

What would be the problem?

Re: [SOLVED] Audio stopped working

More on this:

I tested available Output Device preference for the Music category in System Settings > Multimedia.

ATI IXP rev 2 with Cx20468-31 (ATI IXP AC97) does not produce any sound
Jack Audio Connection Kit and Esound [ESD] does not work and fall backs to ATI IXP AC97 as shown in the screen shots below:

Re: [SOLVED] Audio stopped working

tHANK yOU everybody for the patience.

I had installed lmms and gmerlin, a few days before. Just un-installed them and audio is back. That was so simple! big_smile
