First timer is running into some trouble.
I've managed to install Arch onto my 2nd hard drive following the beginner's guide, but I couldn't get pacman to work, which means I cannot install any extra package. I got stuck when I try to install python:
# pacman -Sy python
Got the following output:
:: Sychronizing package database
core ............. 100%
extra ..............100%
community .....100%
python package not found, searching for group....
error: 'python': not found in sync db
The network is working though. When I pinged google.com, there was no loss of package.
What happened?
Thanks in advance!

I've seen this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=80189. I've tried these solutions. They all seemed fine until I tried to install python using pacman.
I could download stuff off the internet with wget. In other words, my computer is connected to the internet, but somehow pacman cannot find the required package.

Do a pacman -Syyu
You should update your system before doing anything else
Thanks for the help.
I have done that, and the output says "local database is up to date," but I still cannot install anything (i.e. python) with pacman.

maybe it's a problem with your update mirror. check its status here:

That's it!
I made sure to use a working mirror, and pacman is working. Woohoo!
Thanks!
