openjdk6 does not maximize kgs go client

I've been playing go at gokgs.com. They have a java client to access their go server. I'm using openjdk6. The trouble is that I can't get the client to maximize -- I just get a grey box around the the still small client. Under windows, the functionality is that the client scales to whatever size. Any thoughts on how to get this same functionality in arch? I almost posted this to the openjdk-dev list but I wasn't sure if it was arch specific or not.

Forgot to mention that the menus don't work. Yeah, probably more important than the client being miniaturized...I'm going to try the sun vm...

update:
Same problems when using the sun vm. Weird.
