Hi
I installed alpine and configured everything.
But I don't want to retype my password everytime I start alpine.
I googled that I should create a .pine-passfile in my home dir, but that doesn't work.
And is it possible that alpine starts with my inbox folder so I don't have to browse through the menus for new mail.
any ideas? perhaps I should switch to mutt

Did you notice that arch alpine is built like so: --without-passfile?
Did you read any Alpine documentation, and found: initial-keystroke-list=i?
Answer to both is obviously NO. Perhaps you should switch.
You need to install an RTFM interface.

no need to be harsh, that's why I posted in the newbie forums..
I installed it according to the arch wiki entry and this isn't mentioned there.
But thanks anyway.

No need for "perhaps I should switch to mutt [wink]" either
You need to install an RTFM interface.

I use re-alpine from AUR mainly as alpine is no longer maintained, but also as when you install from AUR, you can edit the pkgbuild and add the --with-passfile=... flag.
I'm not sure why Arch default compile is without passfile as you can disable it with a switch if you don't want it
