have you tried to add a new user and running ff?
i had the same problem, with a new user everything worked as it should. i suppose we have messed up something in our ~/.mozilla/firefox/. try to backup the folder and delete it, then cp the settings-files you need back to where they belong. of course, this isn't a very elegant way...

No good. Made a new user. Worked for a bit. And then segfaulted.
