trying out xfce4 ...
Nice. How did you get the shadow under the top panel? The number of times I've enabled shadows under dock windows in the compositor and been left disappointed when it simply doesn't do it...

the shadow, exactly as the panel, is fake, it's part of the wallpaper

I quite like XFCE now.
Wow. Is that one of the artwiz fonts?

Hi,
I've also started using XFCE4. Cinnamon was way too buggy and crashed quite often. XFCE4 isn't perfect neither; but it currently fits best. Here's my current desktop (still working on a Conky config):
Nothing special: Greybird, Faience, MacBird and standard Gnome background (like it alot!).

After spending a fair amont of time in KDE, I am now back in lightweight and snappy xfce land. It wasn't all for nothing. qpdfview has now replaced evince as my pdf viewer of choice, both for speed and usability and joins smplayer, vlc and pkgbroswer as the esteemable apps justifying the presence of qt on my system. After a week or so of tinkering my way back, I think I am fairly settled in my setup again:
Thunar, lovely Thunar, has gotten tabs while I was away:

I love the new deskbar mode! I'm back from MATE (developement seems to have stalled) and although 4.10 release wasn't talked up much, I've found the one or two missing things that made me leave Xfce last time are now present.
Seriously loving deskbar mode. Note, the icons below the menu are quick launch, the smaller icons below that are window buttons.

Greybird GTK, elementary-xfce icons, wallpaper is the default wallpaper from chakra linux, using docky for dock and gala as window manager:
Very sexy windows shadow! Are you using compiz? Or is it xfwm4?

Just dusted off my netbook and installed Arch on it again. I decided to try Xfce again and see what's different. I have to say I am fairly impressed so far. Deskbar panel and edge snap are very welcome. Feels like my win7 desktop lol.
