I've been using Amarok for some time now. I installed 1.2 on my laptop recently and I have been having some problems getting it to work. The biggest problem is that it seems to be stuck in some kind of broken random play mode.
Say I have 10 songs in my playlist ... I start playing the first song. Once that some is over, it picks another one, seemingly at random and plays it. Only Random Play is turned off. After each song it then bounces around over anywhere from 2-5 songs before it settles on one to play. And then sometimes it just stops playing alltogether ... before it has finished playing all 10 songs!
Also, the Play button does not work. It is grayed out. As is the "Play" option in the right click menu of the tray icon. I have to double click the actual title in the playlist.
All in all it is just Behaving Very Badly.

Well, yea, I was able to figure that one out all by myself.
But the other players suck. Or at least they suck more than Amarok does. I've been using Juk, but it quits/exits after it finished playing an "album". Kaboodle and noatun are fine for playing individual tracks from Konq but they suck as general purpose players. I guess I could use xmms.

Yeah, stick with Amarok! I love the "fetch album covers", "lyrics", correcting meta data from musicbrainz and even audioscrobbler.

Use mpd with glurp of gmpc. mpd is a music player daemon which stores a db of all your music in one folder and organises using id3 tags. it lacks a frontend, hence glurp or gmpc. www.musicpd.org. it is in extra repo. It rocks out.
