[SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

Hey there!

I had to reinstall my system, after i trashed my root fs completely, while not paying enough attention on e2fck.
I formatted the partition and installed a fresh arch from an older CD (2008 aug i think). After installation completed, everything ok, i runned a pacman -Syu, upgraded all, and started to install extra packages, Xorg first.

After installing xorg i realised that something is wrong with the way how arch recognizes my mouse. It isnt an xorg problem because i started gpm daemon and it was working very weird in console too.

Acceleration is weird, and after few secs, the pointer gets stuck in the top-left corner and i cant move away from there anymore.

What should the problem be?

- Might be related to this, HAL is takeing like ~15 secs to start (udev events ~1000milisecs)
- Im dont have any modules yet in the modules area, since its a fresh install (only !pcspkr) and in the deamons array i start hal and fam too.
- lsusb is wrinting the mouse name correctly

I tryed a lot of things from the forums, but couldnt solve this problem yet.

Everything else seems to work fine, exept this and the long HAL load

With respect,
dvl

Re: [SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

From what I can tell Everything looks to be just fine.  Have, you tried looking in the Xorg.0.log to see if any errors are beingproduced?

Re: [SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

But as i said, i dont think its an xorg problem, because the mouse works that weird in console too (with gpm).

I think maybe its summin wrong with udev/hal

I'm having similar issues, and also have an A4 mouse. I wonder.... I'm using xf86-video-ati driver and an Radeon 4850.

Re: [SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

This seems to be a known bug in the xf86-input-evdev driver: http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/16972.

According to the bug report there's a patched evdev available in AUR; however, I don't need input hot-plugging so I disabled it as follows:

# pacman -S xf86-input-keyboard xf86-input-mouse
# Xorg -configure
# mv xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Then added following to /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "ServerFlags"
Option "AutoAddDevices" "false"
Option "AllowEmpthyInput" "false"
Option "DontZap" "false"
EndSection

Re: [SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

I tryed few things now, but without success..

As i said few times before too, i dont think that Xorg is causing the problem, since the mouse works the same using gpm (mouse in console, for mc for example) too.

Anyway, i applied the xevdev patch from AUR too, but didnt changed anything, i downgraded udev and hal (hal works fine now, hangs less than 1 sec instead of 15 sec), tryed with the recent post's xorg.conf options too..
But still couldnt solve anything.

Maybe some kernel modules are missing or corrupted? (im using 2.6.31-ARCH, the latest update)

Re: [SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

[SOLVED PARTIALLY]

I succeded by solveing the problem with downgradeing some packages. I wrote Solved Partially since i dont consider it as a solution because its not working with some versions of packages.
But the downgrades solved my problem for Xorg, altrough its still working badly on gpm (i dont use it anyway, just did for testing)
So here are the packages for witch i use different versions than from the last update>

xorg-server 1.6.3.901-1
xf86-input-evdev 2.2.5-1

and

hal 0.5.13-2
udev 146-2

Everything else is from latest update. You can find these older versions of packages here:

Greetings!

Re: [SOLVED]Weird mouse behaviour

I had the same troubles, using nvidias xinerama; I switched to twinview and voilá.
