Improve log messages

Hi,

How can I increase the number of events that are logged in /var/log/messages or /var/log/everything?

I'd like to debug:

  - slow loading of Google Maps
  - wireless connection dropping
  - other issues

but when I look at the logs there's nothing there. Is there a way to boost log writing? Like a really verbose debug mode for everything?

Thanks.

Re: Improve log messages

I don't think that there is a global setting to boost log levels. You probably need to consult the documentation of particular programs if they allow for increasing the log level.

Re: Improve log messages

I don't think anything gets logged for browser issues, like google maps. Run the browser from a terminal, you might get some error output.

Whenever I've had wireless issues, I see messages in everything.log, about "no probe response" and authentication/association timing out - it's been a while so I don't have the exact wording to hand.
