xfce logout annoyance

I ran an upgrade a few days ago.  Now, when I log out I'm prompted for a password.  I don't use a password manager, just login straight into the system so I'd like to do the same going out.

I don't know if this is unique to Arch or xfce but I thought I'd try here first.  Sorry if this is a cluess question.

Thanks,
Burt

Re: xfce logout annoyance

Are you running a consolekit session?

Good ideas do not need lots of lies told about them in order to gain public acceptance.

How would I know?  I don't know what a consolekit session is.

Re: xfce logout annoyance

If you don't use a login manager such as gdm, but rather start in a virtual console, log in there, and type startx, then you may run in to consolekit issues. Happened to me. In my case, running xfce, my ~/.xinitrc now reads ( note the ck-launch-session before the startxfce4 ) :

#!/bin/sh
#
# ~/.xinitrc
#
# Executed by startx (run your window manager from here)
# exec dbus-launch --exit-with-session openbox-session
# exec gnome-session
# exec startkde
exec ck-launch-session startxfce4
# ...or the Window Manager of your choice

And all is now well for me. Your mileage may vary. Another thread discussing this is at : http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=84511

Re: xfce logout annoyance

flick,
I modified my .xinitrc to mimic yours.  Now, when I click the quit button, the entire bottom panel vanishes.  It's done this a few times before randomly but now it does it consistenly so I will change it back to a simple "exec startxfce4"

I'll try another system update.  If that doesn't work I may abandon xfce.

Thanks,
Burt
