MPD & My Book

I'm trying to get mpd/sonata up and running but having problems even after following the wiki to the t. I keep all my music on an external hd (My Book). When it's mounted it is /media/My Book however it complains that permission is denied, I tried chown -R mpd:mpd /media/My Book/Music}/mpd but it only sees /media/My. I'm guessing it doesn't read spaces.

On a side note the wiki lists mpd --create-db but i'm sure thats depreceated.

First off, post your mpd configuration file. For spaces in the file name, you either have to escape them or surround it in quotes.

You must enter something like that:
chown -R mpd:mpd /media/My\ Book/Music/mpd
Press TAB and bash autocomplete filename.
In my mpd music_directory:
music_directory         "/media/disk/Opposing force/Music"

Tried adding the \ to mpd.conf and chown but came up with no such file or directory.

I dont understand what you mean by escape them.

mpd

Create a .mpdconf in your home directory like this

music_directory         "~/Music"
db_file                 "~/.mpd/mpd.db"
log_file                "~/.mpd/mpd.log"
error_file              "~/.mpd/mpd.error"
pid_file                "~/.mpd/mpd.pid"
state_file              "~/.mpd/mpdstate"

Then create  the files specified in the configuration using touch
eg:

touch mpd/mpd.db

Then run mpd from terminal and post your output.

Running mpd as user solved permission problems for me.
