slimserver squeezecenter install?

Hi all,

I see that slimserver is no longer in pacman/aur. I see a squeezecenter item instead, but I cannot build the package.

I download the PKGBUILD and do a makepkg and all I get is:

$ makepkg
==> ERROR: Install scriptlet (squeezeboxserver.install) does not exist.

Does anyone know how to install slimserver/squeezecenter

Ok, I have run the server, but I see nothing when I try to get onto the webpage "localhost:9000",
Is there a HOWTO somewhere to get it going?

Get this message in the log:

[09-11-21 09:03:15.7382] Slim::Utils::MySQLHelper::createSystemTables (500) FATAL: Couldn't connect to database: [Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/cache/squeezeboxserver/squeezebox-mysql.sock' (2)]

I don't see a MySQL server in pacman, only a client. Is the server a dependency for sqeezebox now? It never used to be ... where do I get it from.

Someone please respond .... don't like talking to myself

I gotta ask: do you really think Arch would provide a MySQL client but no server? Also, if you managed to get the AUR package installed without pacman complaining about mysql not being installed, you should tell the AUR maintainer to update the dependency information for this PKGBUILD.

Allow me also to point you to the wiki where setup of MySQL etc. is explained. A bit of proactive work from your part would have you helped answer your own question btw. You wonder whether it is a dependency now, yet don't install it to see if it actually is - like the output you post suggested.

Too bad squeezecenter uses MySQL... Seemed to me like Sqlite would be sufficient (it was in older versions).

The AUR builds for squeezecenter/squeezeboxserver are built with MySQL bundled, so there is no need to a dependency on the Arch MySQL package.

My bad, I didn't know that. I do wonder what the use of that is though, bundling is not customary for Arch packages, I'd think the AUR would have a similar policy.

Unbundling it can be a hassle - I used to package it, so I have some experience there.

I actually did quite a bit of searching and yes of course I installed MySql. And I will allow you to point me to the wiki ... go on then ... What's with the attitude!

I still had the problem.

Why don't you lighten up on "me" and concentrate on the "problem" I listed, that would have been more helpful.

A half-ass opening post is not my fault; only yours. You provide half the picture, I'm actually trying to put it together.

Look at it the other way: if you'd said you tried installing MySQL separately, that would have saved us both a few posts. You say you don't find a server first, then you say you *did* install it... Make up your mind.
