[solved]Yet Another "X won't start" thread

I get the black screen when i try to startx. i followed the wiki entry to set up X, but it doesn't work. Now, what i want to know is, how do i go back on a fresh install to an older version of X, that *doesn't* use HAL?

Do you have drivers for your graphics card / integrated graphics installed? Does it return any error messages? If so, what? We need verbosity. Also posting your current xorg.conf may help.

I have no xorg.conf, because according to the wiki it's not really needed.
I do have the drivers installed, because installed *everything* in pacman.
There are no error messages that i can find in /var/log

You need a xorg.conf to disable xorg input hotplugging. Read more here -> http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xor … otplugging

Re: [solved]Yet Another "X won't start" thread

It happened to me too. I use LXDE and everything was fine until last X.org update (prior to today's) when the blank screen started happening after every restart. I discovered that if I edit /etc/xdg/lxsessions/LXDE/autostart file as root and close it, even without changing anything, not resaving the file, not doing anything to it, then I was able to enter to X with startx as always. Weird, isn't it?

Afortunately, today I've updated my x.org server and seems everything is fine again.

Re: [solved]Yet Another "X won't start" thread

OK, so i'm an idiot. I installed arch and X last night, and had this issue, then i got pissed off, reinstalled vista that came with the computer, or tried to, then reinstalled arch, this time adding my user to the groups hal and dbus before installing X, and used a different WM as well. now it works. probably worked last night but my screen was just too dim to see the bar on scrotwm. Sorry and thanks for the help
