Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

Hi,
When I try to play a song in the Myspace music player, Firefox completely freeze and I have no other choice than sending it a SIGTERM.

I'm using kernel26rt (2.6.31_rt10-3), firefox 3.5.5-1 and flashplugin 10.0.32.18-1.1.

I've tried with a new profile but it does not change anything.

Any hint for where could this come from would be appreciated.

Edit : When the problem is occurring, I don't even get high load on firefox processes :

Re: Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

I would try to install NoScript extension and then enable only musicplayer element.

Sorry, considering some past events, I'm not very confident to install an extension like NoScript. See there and there to know what I'm talking about.

Thanks for trying to help me anyway.

By the way, the problem is happening on every pages, even those which are quite light on these extra contents.

Re: Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

I use NoScript for a long time. Also people I know that are interested in security use this extension. I think you should at least try it. Later you can uninstall it. I know about the issues you linked to, but I prefer more to have scripts on unknown sites under control.

The problem is that many pages run very complex JavaScript on background. It includes tracking pages, ad pages and other stuff that you don't need to actually to see the page. Firefox JS performance is not that fast (in comparison to V8 or WebKit), so sometimes it helps to enable only scripts that you need.

I have tested today with NoScript. The freeze is still there.

Any other idea ?

Re: Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

What's your Firefox version ?
Does logs say anything ?
What's your hardware configuration ? Flash rendering is all on CPU. So, you need some good CPU to use current version of Flash.
What desktop manager do you use ? Maybe it will help to use some simpler one if you use KDE4 for example.

edit: To ensure the Flash is the problem, try to disable it in plugins settings. If problem doesn't occur after this, you should try reinstalling flash plugin (different version).

Re: Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

Firefox version is in my first post.

My CPU is a Core2Duo T5600 (1.83GHz), it should not be a problem.

My desktop environment is some gnome components with xmonad.

If I disable flash plugin, I will not be able to test anything because the Myspace player needs flash to run and Firefox is not freezing as long as I don't hit play.

Edit : This is embarrasing but I haven't found where firefox is suppose to log. When I start it from a terminal there is some information displayed there. But no error or warning.
When testing today I noticed that if I wait several minutes firefox stop freezing. I am then able to play one song, then it freezes again.

Oh :\
Well, I really don't know where to look for a problem now.
Can you please send link to MySpace on which is freezing ? I will at least try it, if I'll get the same problem.

Re: Firefox complete freezes when trying to play song on Myspace

I tried it and it works without any problems. I tried also clean profile and I've had almost the same performance.

My configuration:

$ uname -a
Linux nb 2.6.31-ARCH #1 SMP PREEMPT Tue Nov 10 19:48:17 CET 2009 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T5550 @ 1.83GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

$ firefox -v
Mozilla Firefox 3.5.5, Copyright (c) 1998 - 2009 mozilla.org

Flash 10.0 r32

$ lspci | grep VGA
08:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400M GS] (rev a1)

$ glxinfo | grep string
OpenGL vendor string: NVIDIA Corporation
OpenGL renderer string: GeForce 8400M GS/PCI/SSE2
OpenGL version string: 3.2.0 NVIDIA 190.42
OpenGL shading language version string: 1.50 NVIDIA via Cg compiler

I've got another tip. Do you have open port 1935 ? It's a Adobe Media Server port, which you need to connect to receive a song.
