[solved]Arch install taking too long (worried)

I am installing arch netinstall x86-64
The installation was going fine until it started to download kernel2.6
it's been like that for hours and i am wondering whether the kernel is a large file or the installation went kaput.

Maybe it's your network connection, it shouldn't take more than a minute or two.  Switch to another tty and see if you can ping anything.

ok

ping -c 3 www.google.com

And yes,I do have a network connection so it is not that.
maybe I should start again?

Is there anything else on your network consuming bandwidth, e.g. internet radio, other downloads, etc.?

well I am installing arch on a laptop so will turning off my pc help?
(that's a bad question,of course it will help,right?)
my pc is connected to a modem which is connected by an ethernet cable so it's not really wireless,apart form my laptop,nothing else is wireless.

Maybe wireless is the problem. The signal strength is not constant, e.g. if a person moves through the room, this will affect wireless signal strength.
Turning off your pc in this case would only help, if you have e.g. a download running in parallel to your laptop installation.

So the smartest thing to do would be to connect my laptop with Ethernet.
I will see how install take 2 fares,if it fails then Ethernet it is.

Yes, that would probably the best, since you would get a more reliable and stable connection.
