hp-setup isn't able to communicate with CUPS

After solving my previous problem:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=85444

I immediately bumped into another one - after starting hp-setup and choosing my printer, its name, and clicking "Next>" I get an error (the same in console and GUI box):

/error: Printer queue setup failed. Please restart CUPS and try again.

Of course CUPS is fully working. What's interesting, when I open hplip, there is a window with a few buttons - among them, is "open CUPS Web interface". I did it, and directed me to a site:

http://localhost:631/admin?op=add-printer

Which said:

Administration Error

Error:

   Unknown operation "add-printer"!

Which leads me to a conclusion that hplip is only compatible with CUPS 1.3.x.

Re: hp-setup isn't able to communicate with CUPS

Why not try to set up your printer from within CUPS completely? I have installed a few HP printers (and am using one myself) and I've always done it with the CUPS interface.

Just http://localhost:631 and CUPS will guide you from there. Make sure you select the hplip driver though and not the driver CUPS offers for your model (if it's available), it's downright crappy. My mom has a Deskjet 2560 and I reconfigured it with the recent usblp debacle, accidentally selected the CUPS driver for it and it did print, but it was unreadable.

Re: hp-setup isn't able to communicate with CUPS

Yup, I did that. I am able to print, but not to scan. Xsane says "No devices found".

PS.: It's propably not the groups problem as it was before, because:

scanner:x:96:warnec

is in my /etc/group.
